NSW: Fire crews bring Sydney blazes under control
SYDNEY, April 26 AAP - Firefighters have brought two blazes burning in inner Sydney
tonight under control.
A fire which broke out late today in the James Cook building in Pitt St, Waterloo,
resulted in the evacuation of about 100 residents.
The fire is believed to have broken out in a laundry on the second floor of the building.
The NSW Fire Brigade said three people were taken to hospital with minor injuries as
a result of the fire, which was brought under control at 8.45pm (AEST).
The building suffered extensive smoke and water damage on the second floor with smoke
damage to the levels above, the brigade said.
The cause of the fire was being investigated.
All the residents had returned to the building, the brigade said.
Another fire which started in the Black Swan factory on Bourke Street, Redfern, about
5.30pm (AEST) was also under control.
Six fire crews using aerial pumpers brought the blaze under control by about 8pm (AEST).
The NSW Fire Brigade said the blaze broke out in the roof area of the second level
of the brick and fibro building, which was under demolition.
No injuries were reported in the blaze and there was no damage to adjoining buildings,
the brigade said.
