SYDNEY, April 3 AAP - Doctor Who fans will this weekend get to discover the answerto one of life's great mysteries: Is the Tardis really bigger on the inside than it ison the outside?

Hundreds of followers of the British cult series - many dressed as their favouriteDoctor or villain - will attend the sixth annual Doctor Who convention in Sydney, whichthis year features two former stars of the television series.

Brisbane-born Janet Fielding, who played Australian flight attendant Tegan Jovankabetween 1981 and 1984, and British-born Wendy Padbury, who played astrophysicist Zoe Heriotbetween 1968 and 1969, will be in attendance.

Boasting 695 episodes screened over 26 years between 1963 and 1989, Doctor Who wasthe longest running science fiction television series in the world.

"Whovention 2003" coincides with the series' 40th anniversary.

Doctor Who, the eccentric, jelly baby-eating Timelord, was played by seven differentactors throughout its television life.

But the series is possibly better known for its infamous b-grade villains.

These include the Ice Warriors, Giant Maggots and Cybermen, but the best rememberedwere no doubt the Daleks - rickety robot creatures that threatened to "exterminate" theDoctor and his companions while always seeming on the verge of falling into cardboardheaps.

Whovention 2003 spokesman Brain Lindsay said this weekend's conference would featurea full-size replica Tardis - the blue police box in which the Doctor mysteriously travelledthrough time and space and which miraculously appeared to be the size of a house on theinside.

Fans will also be no doubt be overjoyed to see four or five full-size Daleks.

And for other Doctor Who fans who can't make it to this weekend's convention, an original, speaking, BBC-owned Dalek is on display at Sydney's Powerhouse Museum until July 21 aspart of the exhibition "Special FX: New secrets behind the screen".

The Powerhouse Museum will also screen two classic Doctor Who episodes - "The Seedsof Death" and "Resurrection of the Daleks" - tomorrow night from 6pm (AEST).
